On December 30th my phone rang.  The lady on the other end had a big problem.  I won’t go into all the details but her husband was being sent off to prison and she needed to sell her house.  She had been the victim of abuse and, among other things, some really bad financial decisions that had been made by her soon-to-be-ex-husband.  The problem was that her house was located in a small town about 40 miles outside of Amarillo.  Since we can only buy homes in Amarillo and the surrounding area I wasn’t able to help her as much as I would have liked.  I gave her some great advice on how to find a landlord-buyer in her small town and how to set up some cool online advertising.  But I couldn’t buy her house.

Over the years I have heard a lot of people criticize Real Estate Investors.  Many people mistakenly associate home buying companies with crooks.  I have written extensively about this and I won’t revisit all of my thoughts on the subject.  But when I got off the phone with that poor woman the other day I thought how happy she would be if there was an active Real Estate Investor working in her town.  That’s what the critics don’t understand.  Sometimes people find themselves in very difficult situations where they have to make some tough choices.  Every person sells for his or her own reasons.
